Background: Jayden began with K10 on a traineeship, and eventually got onto an apprenticeship with us due to his performance.
During the Traineeship: Jayden always had an interest in plumbing, and this grew even more after his Level 2 Plumbing course. He then desired to obtain some sort of experience on site. So upon completion of this, he did some labouring work for family which made him eager to do more on site. From here, Jayden began looking for construction opportunities, and K10 was one of the first companies that he contacted. He found the on site placement with Galliford Try extremely helpful, as he got an insight into how a construction site works beyond labouring, and what it would be like to work in his preferred trade of plumbing. “Galliford Try treated me like an employee rather than someone helping out on experience, which made the experience a lot more enjoyable.” Jayden has met quite a few people on site, and enjoyed meeting those with a bit more experience than himself, as well as people in the same position as him. It is a great chance to meet likeminded indviduals and make new friends.
This is another great example of what a traineeship can lead to. The interesting part is students do not need to have a lot of experience to start with us. Most traineeship students start with no experience at all. However, the course is structured to teach you about the industry and give you hands on experience, as well as the theoretical side of things. By the end of the course, you will be equipped with a lot more knowledge as well as on site experience.
After the Traineeship:
Jayden was offered a position with Riverside Mechanical through K10 upon completion of his work experience. This was only a result of his drive and determination that he showed on his work placement. Hard work really does pay off! He is now working on Ant Yapi’s Harcourt House Project on National minimum wage, on his way to becoming a fully qualified plumber! Jayden strongly reccomends K10 to anyone who has an interest in constructon, even if you aren’t entirely sure what trade you want to get into. “There are loads of different paths to go down, and loads of different trades to choose from. You also get hands on experience which really helps!”
