Case Study: Rhiannon

Hicks

Meet Rhiannon, who joined the Heathrow Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in September 2022 with Maber Construction on a Carpentry Apprenticeship. From day one she has shown a positive attitude and dedication to her development. She is improving every day and has a bright future ahead.

Greg – Project Manager – Maber Construction
“Rhiannon is a valued member of our building team, she arrived as a quiet young lady with little construction experience and some learning difficulties.

We partnered her with one of our younger carpenters to guide her into the role and she is now placed on the T2B VCC project with a team of five other carpenters. She has vastly developed since her first day and has coped with the pressure of being the only woman on a large construction project very well.

We have regular progress meetings with Oliver (Rhiannon’s K10 Line Manager), I have been very impressed with Oliver he is a caring person who has always put Rhiannon’s welfare first, he understood Rhiannon’s difficulties at college and researched other options for her continued training.

Following these meetings, Oliver managed to enrol Rhiannon in an online carpentry course including a construction bus that comes to our office to allow Rhiannon to carry out her practical training. This has given her extra confidence and we have noticed her improvement as she gets more experience.”
