Congratulations Simon On. The latest K10 Success Story.

Simon was referred to K10 by the Family Mosaic Apprenticeship Programme. He was at a point in his life where he had hit a real cross-roads. Having to go to the Job Centre every day was understandably challenging and the lack of progress and purpose to his day to day was getting him down.

“I decided to bring some focus to my job search and went to a K10 workshop to learn more about the scheme and the opportunities that were available to someone like me. From there I was invited to interview, to talk more about my career goals, passions and how I saw my career in construction developing. I managed to get my enthusiasm across and with the support from the team at K10 I chose to train as a Site Engineer. This was mainly due to the fact that I really enjoyed maths at school and as a Site Engineer this skill was a perfect match. Once I had chosen to be a Site Engineer I was placed in a job in my home borough of Hackney. I started as a Trainee Site Engineer and in less than a year I was promoted to Junior Site Engineer.”

During his K10 journey, Simon said that his confidence noticably increased: “That sense of working towards a career – doing something purposeful with each day made a huge difference to my mindset”. Simon completed two really positive Site Engineer placements with the Ardmore Group through his apprenticeship and consistently received excellent feedback across both sites in Hackney.

Has the apprenticeship served as a positive platform for Simon? “Undoubtedly, before I joined K10, there was no structure to my job search. I just wanted ‘a job’. Now I have a real focus to my career. The ‘leg-up’ K10 gave me at a time when things were feeling a little aimless proved to be a big turning point.”

Before I came across K10, I wouldn’t have said that I had a profession or even a clear idea of what I wanted to do but today I can proudly say that I do. I am building a career as a Site Engineer and I am gaining a degree qualification that will ensure I have a long term & well-rewarded future doing something that I love.”
