Our current traineeship cohort went to McLaren’s Wembley Park Project, which is being developed by Quintain. The tour gives an insight into what to expect from their placement, and major construction projects in general.
The students were given an hour presentation by Hannah and Darren who answered a number of key questions that the trainees had. The presentation was beneficial, as it outlined a lot about how Mclaren operates and how their Wembley Park site has come to fruition. Darren Brown himself started off as an apprentice, and worked his way up to working for one of UK’s most prestigious developer as a Project Manager. This allowed the students to gain guidance and advice from someone who was in a similar situation to them, proving what a traineeship or apprenticeship can lead to in the long term.
The students really enjoyed being taken around the site, one of which commented that “After our site tour, it was very clear to me that I wanted to pursue a career in the construction industry”. On the whole, the students couldn’t be happier with the visit and it’s only increased their desire to progress in the industry.
This is what Hannah Cowell (Community Liasion Coordinator) had to say: “On behalf of myself, Darren Brown and Micheal Butcher, we would like to express our gratitude to the students who accompanied us on the site tour, the group were so engaging and enthusiastic making the session easy to accommodate. McLaren strive to make sure that we can do our best to give an insight into the industry to peak interest and it is a pleasure to be able to help give our experiences.”
