Terrence Mountain
Age: 23
Trade: Electrician
Borough: Tower Hamlets
Apprenticeship: Level 3 Electrical Installations
College: Barking and Dagenham College
Background: Prior to K10, Terrence was employed as an electricians mate earning £55 a day. He enjoyed work as he gained the required experience which helped him get onto an apprenticeship. He wasn’t aware of many companies offering electrical apprenticeships and was not sure how to go about applying for one.
During the Apprenticeship: Terrence was happy with the apprenticeship overall and loved working on a construction site. ‘I always had contact with my Apprenticeship Manager, Jack, and this meant I had no issues as any queries were resolved straight away. I was working on site with Halsion from the start to the end of my apprenticeship and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them. My supervisor helped so much with my qualification which enabled me to know what I needed to do in order to qualify. I was with Barking and Dagenham College and had a pleasant experience with them and got on really well with my assessor. If I could go back and change anything, it would be to take more pictures on site to be able to use them as evidence towards my qualification. I gained vital experience and if it wasn’t for K10 I would not have been taken on direct by Halsion. K10 were extremely helpful and placed me on a very good site which made the experience better as a whole’.
After the Apprenticeship: Terrence has since gone direct with Halsion as a qualified Electrician and will be moving around sites with his supervisor. His salary is now £120 a day and is likely to increase after further training given by Halsion.
