The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme (SAS), is a bespoke apprenticeship programme designed to collaboratively address the issue of skills gaps within the water utilities sector. Operating across London and much of the South of England, apprentices from a broad area are able to take advantage of the opportunities created by a significant, capital delivery programme.
By engaging and empowering their supply chain, via the SAS, Thames Water have created an effective and efficient way of channelling more skilled entrants into the industry. By appointing an organisation like K10, that specialises in supply chain mobilisation, they have achieved a much larger impact than they themselves could have created as a single organisation. The data speaks for itself.
The Thames Water Shared Apprentice Scheme is an exciting programme that will help us collectively fill not just our current but future skills gaps, by increasing supply chain involvement that can drive real change across the sector. It has been great to see the programme go from strength to strength, with our highest number of apprentices on the scheme to date. We have seen some outstanding performances from those involved in the SAS, and it is fantastic to see so many talented individuals entering the industry and gaining skills that are so in demand.

As a main contractor working with Thames Water, we’ve seen first-hand the exceptional calibre of apprentices coming through the K10 Shared Apprenticeship Scheme. Apprentices are astute, energetic, and enthusiastic and whilst they obtain meaningful, hands-on experience on live water sector projects. This really is a great scheme for both us and the apprentice and has the added benefit of developing the skilled professionals our industry will rely on in the future.
