We met Louise at the Peabody Job Fair in Pembury, Hackney. From the very beginning, she came across as a very motivated individual who was extremely eager to get some construction experience. We took her details and contacted her after the Job Fair. Shortly after this, Louise began her traineeship and her talent was evident to the whole of K10. Her work was always second to none, whether it was written work or practical work.
Our Traineeship consists of a construction skills course, and an employability course. The construction skills takes place in our workshop teaching you basic construction skills and the employability focuses on employment skills before going on site. Louise showed a lot of talent in both of these, whilst being very impressive with her punctuality and generally being very respectful to the K10 employees.
All of these qualities are undeniably important during the traineeship, because our apprenticeship managers are always keeping an eye on how our students will perform on site. Louise never failed to impress in this regard, she seemed to tick all of the boxes when it came to being a great employee.
Louise eventually completed all of her work, obtained her Level 1 Health and Safety and CSCS which made her ready for her site placement. This is supposed to last 3 weeks, but Louise went on site and made such a great impression that she was offered an apprenticeship with RB Emerson through K10. Whilst Louise didn’t hold all the required qualifications to be an electrician, the site decided to offer her the position regardless due to her performance on site. She had this to say about her journey ” The K10 traineeship has given me the chance to get an apprenticeship that I never thought I’d be able to get. I’m now working as an electrical apprentice and it’s all because of this opportunity that K10 gave me. The employability / construction classes at the K10 Training Centre were great preparation for the three weeks of work experience I completed on site. All I can say is that if you work hard and make a good impression on the traineeship, there’s every chance you can get a full time job out of it….just like me!’
This is a great example of somebody who came to us with a dream of working in the construction field, but lacking in experience. Even without experience or the right qualifications, Louise landed a placement. This should be motivation to anybody who is looking to get their career started in the construction field, but feel they don’t qualify. Doing a traineeship with K10 will provide you with everything that you need to go on site, plus the chance to get some on site experience also. It is a great chance to get a taste of all trades and see what suits you the best. Perform well and you may find yourself on an apprenticeship through us also!
